The Gavilan men's soccer team wrapped up their 2008 season with a 3-0 loss to Evergreen Valley College on Friday, and finished the year with an 0-12-2 record in the Coast Conference, 4-14-2 overall.
"We played fairly well against them," Gavilan men's soccer coach Albert Marques said. Evergreen Valley, at 17-3-3 overall, is ranked No. 5 in the state of California.
Gavilan battled early, though, keeping the game scoreless until about 10 minutes remaining in the first half when Evergreen Valley pocketed a pair of goals to take a 2-nil lead at the break.
They added a third score late in the second half as well.
"With everything we went through at the beginning of the year, we finished fairly well," Marques said. "We got a couple ties, lost a close one to Skyline College and held our own against Evergreen.
"Hopefully, we can capitalize on that next year."
Gavilan College Women's Volleyball
The Gavilan's women's volleyball team beat Hartnell in three games (25-14, 25-13, 25-17) Friday night in Gilroy. A win in Wednesday's match at West Valley College could send the Lady Rams (16-10 overall, 6-3 Coast Conference) to the playoffs.
Gavilan College Men's Basketball
The Gavilan's men's basketball team lost 71-61 at Merced College last Wednesday, dropping the Rams to 0-3.
Gavilan lost games to Las Positas (82-62) and Columbia College (72-66) in a tournament to start its schedule.
