The Anzar Hawks snapped a four-match losing streak to Pacific Grove Thursday when they beat the Breakers in three games (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) for the first time since 2006.
It was the first time Anzar has deated Pacific Grove on the road since 2005 as well. The win also avenges a previous loss to PG earlier this season at the Mount Madonna Invitational.
"The offense finally clicked," said coach Chris Wardlaw, who added that freshman Alex Flores had a "coming out party" with 11 kills and three blocks.
"She's our freshman that can really hit the ball," Wardlaw said. "She was great. I've often said that when Alex can turn it on, it will elevate our offense in a big way and that's what happened tonight."
The Hawks are now 3-3 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 10-8 overall.
Setter Kerstin Tuning had 24 assists and two aces, and Erin Deleissegues finished with 11 kills, 22 digs and two aces.
The Hawks have a pair of home matches next week in San Juan Bautista. On Tuesday they'll host Stevenson and on Thursday they'll welcome King City.
