The Anzar Hawks cross country team finished third overall at the MTAL/CAL Center Meet on Thursday at Toro Park in Salinas, but were the top team from Division V.
Compiling 96 points, Anzar finished behind second-place King City (53) and first-place Carmel (41), both of which are in a higher division than the San Juan Bautista school.
Thirteen teams total were at the event, with York, which finished sixth overall with 147 points, the closest D-5 team to the Hawks.
"I think York is still a contender," coach Doug MacKinnon said. "They have good runners. I expect to see them get better. We'll have a close meet on Wednesday."
The Hawks will compete at a dual on Wednesday at Garland Park in Carmel Valley. Teams expected to attend include Oakwood, York and Monterey Bay Academy. The meet will start at 4 p.m.
