Opened since 1981, the Hollister Field Office for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management will close and the operation will move to Marina, according to a statement released from the local branch of the National Federation of Federal Employees.
The closing was announced to employees today and affects about 30 workers, which the statement describes as long-term Hollister residents with strong ties to the community.
"The affected employees are deeply concerned about the impacts to the City of Hollister, ..." the statement reads.
The Hollister Field Office manages 284,000 acres of public land. The Marina location was selected, according to the statement, because the BLM manages 7,200 acres at the former Fort Ord site as a day-use park.
