The San Benito County League of United Latin American Citizens will be holding a candidate forum Oct. 20. LULAC has invited candidates from the Hollister City Council, San Juan Bautista City Council, Hollister School District Board of Trustees, San Benito High School District Board of Trustees and the San Benito Health Care District to attend this forum.
Mickie Luna, president of the local LULAC chapter, said this event is important for Latino residents.
"We always like to include the Latino community in our leadership."
These forums have been happening since 1988 to give Latino voters a chance to ask questions important to them and to find out the candidates' focus.
"LULAC is 100 percent voters - it is very important to us," she said. She added that even students away at college stay informed and send their votes via absentee balloting.
The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Veterans Memorial Building Annex. The forum will be moderated by Rudy Rodriguez of San Jose.
The candidates will have two minutes for opening statements, three minutes for a question-answer session and a two-minute closing statement. The three minute Q&A session will be comprised of questions created by the LULAC board. If there is time during the question segment, the floor will be opened up to the audience.
