Police blotter: Man suspected of assaulting wife with 'air soft' gun
Jun 23, 2008
 By The Free Lance Staff

Assaults

A 41-year-old Hollister man was arrested on Saturday after police say he assaulted his wife with an "air soft" gun and threw a pair of scissors at her daughter. According to police spokeswoman Rosie Betanio, the man grabbed his wife by the jaw and neck - bruising her - then prevented her from leaving the home. Betanio said he then shot her with a rubber-BB gun and threw a pair of scissors at his wife's 10-year-old daughter. The man was booked into San Benito County Jail.

A 38-year-old Gilroy man was arrested during a wedding reception at the Veterans' Memorial Building on Saturday after, police say, he punched a security guard in the face. According to a police report the suspect was arguing with his wife, and when the security guard attempted to intervene, the man punched him. The security guard then held the man until police arrived and took him to jail.

A 37-year-old Hollister man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend. Betanio said the man pushed, punched and slapped his live-in girlfriend during an argument. When the woman tried to phone police, the man is said to have torn the phone line out of the wall. After his arrest, the man was booked into San Benito County Jail.

Car thefts

A 17-year-old girl was arrested on Friday in San Jose on suspicion of stealing a 2001 Dodge Durango from the garage of her boyfriend's parent's home in the 2400 block of Fairhaven Drive in Hollister. The minor was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and burglary for entering into the home before she took the car from the garage. She was booked into a San Jose juvenile detention center.

A blue 2004 Dodge Neon was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Caputo Court on Saturday. Police said the car was taken out of his apartment's parking lot. No arrests have been made and police have no suspects.

Burglaries

A burglary was reported Saturday in the 800 block of Summer Drive. The homeowner told police someone broke in, possibly through the house's side door near the garage, and took his 9 mm handgun and several ammunition magazines.

Police currently have no suspects.

A man reported a burglary happened sometime between Friday and Sunday in the 900 block of Marne Drive. The man told police someone broke in through his garage door and took a controller for his Sony Playstation 3. No arrests have been made and the case was closed with a lack of leads.

Another burglary was reported as having happened sometime between Friday and Sunday at a storage shed in the 100 block of Beresini Lane. The shed's owner told police the suspected burglar broke in and took $900 worth of stereo equipment. Police currently have no suspects.
