The same effect that Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling had for children can be felt for the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer for teens. The fantastical world of vampires, werewolves and fairies has become much more popular, with many teens asking for similar books to Twilight. With the last book in the Twilight series coming out soon, and long waiting lists at the library, here is a sampling of books in this sought-after genre to read while you are waiting.

    'City of Bones'

    by Cassandra Clare

Suddenly able to see demons and the Darkhunters who are dedicated to returning them to their own dimension, fifteen-year-old Clary Fray is drawn into this bizarre world when her mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a monster.

    'Blue Bloods'

    by Melissa De La Cruz

Select teenagers from some of New York City's wealthiest and most socially prominent families learn a startling secret about their bloodlines.

'A Book of a Thousand Days'

    by Shannon Hale

Fifteen-year-old Dashti, sworn to obey her sixteen-year-old mistress, the Lady Saren, shares Saren's years of punishment locked in a tower, then brings her safely to the lands of her true love, where both must hide who they are as they work as kitchen maids.

    'The Faerie Path'

    by Frewin Jones

Anita, an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl, is transported from modern-day London to the realm of Faerie where she discovers that she is Princess Tania, the long-lost daughter of King Oberon and Queen Titania.

    'Keturah and Lord Death'

    by Martine Leavitt

When Lord Death comes to claim sixteen-year-old Keturah while she is lost in the King's Forest, she charms him with her story and is granted a twenty-four hour reprieve in which to seek her one true love.

    'Wicked Lovely' by

    Melissa Marr

Seventeen-year-old Aislinn, who has the rare ability to see faeries, is drawn against her will into a centuries-old battle between the Summer King and the Winter Queen, and the survival of her life, her love, and summer all hang in the balance.

    'Vampire Kisses'

    by Ellen Schreiber

Sixteen-year-old Raven, an outcast who always wears black and hopes to become a vampire some day, falls in love with the mysterious new boy in town, eager to find out if he can make her dreams come true.

    'Betwixt'

    by Tara Bray Smith

Three alienated teenagers are drawn to a strange outdoor concert in the woods outside of Seattle, where they discover that they possess magical powers and that their destinies are intertwined.
