    Emily Carol Painter, daughter of Dr. Alan and Sandy Painter of Hollister, and George Rynard Watson Jr., son of George Watson Sr. and Dare Howze of Valdosta, Ga., were married Jan. 11, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple honeymooned in Jamaica.

    Kaitlyn Elena Impala Velasco

    Kaitlyn Elena Impala Velasco was born Jan. 10, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to parents Bernadette O'Donovan and Jesse Velasco Jr. of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

    Eydee Lynne Hack was born Jan. 20, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose to parents Louis and Lindsay Hack. She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

    Donna Sooter

    Donna Sooter of Morgan Hill was awarded a bachelor's degree in business administration, summa cum laude, from Kaplan University on Feb. 2. The university, in Davenport, Iowa, offers more than 100 academic programs and serves 38,000 online and on-ground students.



    Chrystel Marincich

    Chrystel Massiel E. Marincich of Gilroy has made the fall 2007 dean's list at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt University is a private research university of approximately 6,500 undergraduates and 5,300 graduate and professional students.



    Jennifer Brooks

    Syracuse University law students continue to have one of the most successful seasons in the College of Law's trial team history. On Feb. 10, third-year students Olatokunbo Olaniyan, Rafiel D. Warfield and Joseph Nosse, and second-year student Jennifer Brooks of Morgan Hill, defeated St. John's University School of Law in the National Trial Competition regional championship in White Plains, N.Y. Olaniyan was named Best Advocate in the tournament.

    The winning team of Olaniyan, Warfield, Nosse and Brooks advances to the national championship round in Austin, Texas, March 26-29. The nationwide tournament is sponsored by the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
